A man and woman were arrested on grand theft charges after they allegedly used a pickup truck to steal a camper from a residence in Marion County.
On Tuesday, January 28, a female victim told the Marion County Sheriff’s Office that her 2006 Surveyor camper, which is valued at around $6,000, had been stolen from her home in Fort McCoy. The arrest report stated that the theft had occurred between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
While investigating the theft, MCSO learned that the stolen camper had been spotted at a Circle K gas station in Fort McCoy. A review of the gas station’s video surveillance footage revealed that the camper was being pulled through the parking lot by a light-colored Ford pickup truck at 2:09 p.m. on January 28, according to the report.
An MCSO corporal noted in the report that a male suspect was seen on the footage exiting the pickup truck and entering the convenience store at Circle K, where he “ask(ed) for change for the air pump.” The truck and camper soon left the gas station, traveling southbound on E Highway 315.
During the investigation, which included comparing the video surveillance footage to recent MCSO booking photos, the corporal determined that the male suspect in this case was 39-year-old Belleview resident Ryan James Tuman. The report stated that Tuman’s “hair style” and “facial hair style” appeared to match the suspect shown on the footage, and Tuman had “similar tattoos.”
In addition, the investigation allegedly revealed that 36-year-old Belleview resident Tasha Lyn Kiser was the registered owner of a silver Ford pickup truck that was attached to a camper at 2:30 p.m. on the day of the theft, near the intersection of Highway 40 and Highway 315. Her vehicle also appeared to match the vehicle that was seen on the gas station’s video surveillance footage.
According to the report, a relative of Tuman’s was shown a photo of the male suspect, which was taken from the surveillance footage, and the relative identified the suspect as Tuman.
On Thursday, January 30, Tuman and Kiser met with law enforcement. After being read her Miranda rights, Kiser allegedly admitted to finding the camper while driving through the area, which prompted her to call Tuman for assistance with removing it.
During the post-Miranda interview, Tuman corroborated Kiser’s statements, and he also provided the sheriff’s office with an address. When deputies responded to this location, they found the stolen camper, according to the report.
Tuman and Kiser were both placed under arrest and transported to Marion County Jail, where they are currently being held without bond. They are both facing a felony charge of grand theft (over $5,000 but less than $10,000).
A court date has not been scheduled yet for Tuman or Kiser, according to jail records.
