A Marion County motorcyclist was ejected from his vehicle and killed after an SUV turned into his path in Ocala on Wednesday, marking the ninth death of a motorcyclist among the county’s 22 fatal accidents this year.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident in question occurred near the intersection of County Road 475 and County Road 484 on Wednesday, May 14, at 5:10 p.m.
A sport utility vehicle being driven by a 19-year-old Ocala man was attempting to make a left turn from CR 475, just north of the roadway’s intersection with CR 484, into a private drive on the east shoulder.
While the SUV was turning, a motorcycle being driven by a 22-year-old Summerfield man northbound on CR 475 collided with the right rear of the SUV.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist was ejected from his vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver and his passenger, a 13-year-old Ocala boy, were uninjured in the accident. Both vehicle occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the incident.
No additional details were provided regarding the crash.
According to data from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), there have been 74 motorcycle crashes resulting in at least nine fatalities through May 10. It is unclear if the state’s data reflects the most recent incident on Wednesday.
Through the first four and a half months of the year, there have already been over 2,115 vehicular crashes that have resulted in 1,771 injuries and at least 22 fatalities in Marion County.
Among those killed have been nine pedestrians, several of whom have been struck while walking along U.S. Highway 441.
In 2024, Marion County recorded 113 fatalities as a result of motor vehicle accidents, according to FLHSMV. During that year, approximately 13 motorcyclists and 21 pedestrians were killed.
