A restaurant that operated for many years in the east side of the city has reopened in a new space on the top floor of an Ocala hotel.
Taverna Berrocal has opened its new location within the Holiday Inn & Suites at 3600 SW 38th Avenue.
The new restaurant replaces Sky Fine Dining, which permanently closed during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The restaurant space has sat vacant every since.
Owned by and named after Juan Berrocal, the restaurant formerly operated out of 2515 NE 3rd Street in east Ocala, a space they also took over from a shuttered restaurant in Sabores Latinos.
The new space represents a significant increase in size over its predecessor, offering dozens more seats, a large bar, and a multi-story view of the city.
Taverna Berrocal serves authentic Peruvian food fused with Italian and French nouvelle flavors.
“At Taverna Berrocal, we take pride in offering a culinary experience that blends Peruvian and Italian tradition with a modern twist. Discover the story behind each dish and the passion we pour into every detail,” reads a statement from the organization’s website.
A summer menu from the restaurant shows it is currently serving a variety of appetizers and traditional Peruvian favorites, including multiple types of ceviche.
The restaurant’s entrees include fried snapper (pescado frito), stir-fried beef (lomo saltado), and a seafood paella, which features saffron rice, shrimp, mussels, calamari, and chorizo.
The summer menu’s steak options include Black Angus ribeye, filet mignon, and Churrasco.
Among the desserts offered are quinoa crème brûlée, tiramisú, tres leches (sponge cake), and French macarons.
The restaurant is open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
