A 66-year-old Ocala man who was fatally run over on U.S. Highway 441 after he lost control of his motorcycle on Saturday morning is at least the 16th motorcyclist killed on Marion County roadways this year.

The fatal accident occurred near the intersection of U.S. Hwy 441 and NW 223rd Street in Micanopy on Saturday, August 23, at around 8 a.m.

According to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on U.S. Hwy 441, in the outside lane, just north of the roadway’s intersection with NW 223rd Street.

For unknown reasons, the man overturned his motorcycle and was redirected north west, colliding with the right side of a sport utility vehicle being driven by a Gainesville woman.

After the collision, FHP reports that the man was struck by the “undercarriage” of a separate sport utility vehicle being driven by a woman from Fort McCoy. That SUV then ran off the right side of the roadway, collided with a fence, and came to final rest in the grass on the right shoulder of the roadway.

The motorcycle came to final rest in the outside lane of U.S. Hwy 441, facing west. The last SUV was relocated to the center median, according to FHP.

The motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. The report notes that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

None of the other individuals involved in the accident sustained any injuries, according to FHP.

The accident blocked northbound traffic on the roadway near the Marion County/Alachua County line for multiple hours.

According to the state records, Marion County has recorded at least 15 motorcycle fatalities in 2025. Comparatively, there were 13 reported motorcycle fatalities in Marion County in 2024.

Just three weeks ago, a 50-year-old motorcyclist was killed while riding through the Ocala National Forest.

In July, another Marion County resident was killed after his motorcycle was struck from behind in Belleview.

At the end of June, two motorcyclists were killed within a day of each other.
