The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company made history this week at its March Sale, concluding with a record-setting $72,050,000 in total gross sales that included a $2 million top-selling horse.

OBS’s three-day sale of two-year-olds in training concluded Thursday, with a record-breaking total gross and seven horses crossing the million-dollar threshold. OBS is located at 1701 SW 60th Avenue in southwest Ocala.

The three-day auction, which ran from March 10 to March 12, saw 443 horses change hands, surpassing the previous March gross record of $71.4 million set in 2023. This year’s success also comfortably beat the 2025 March sale, which generated $65.6 million.

The cumulative average price for the March sale rose to $162,641, up from $151,992 last year, while the median price improved from $70,000 to $85,000.

A bay filly by Nyquist proved to be the star of the show, selling for $2 million to Boyd Racing on Wednesday. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, the filly’s price tag ties her for the second-highest priced horse ever sold at an OBS March sale.

While a significant sum, it fell just short of the all-time March record of $3 million set by a Curlin colt last year.

The auction reached its finale on Thursday when a bay colt by Yaupon became the seventh horse of the week to hit the million-dollar mark. Purchased by agent Donato Lanni for the “Three Amigos” ownership group, the colt helped the sale equal the OBS March record for the most seven-figure horses sold in a single event.

“Very gratified and pleased and happy for the consignors,” said Tod Wojciechowski, Director of Sales for OBS. “It’s the quality of the horses they bring that brings those prices. We were very happy with the amount of trade that took place all three days.”

The strong performance in March continues a high-volume trend for the local equestrian powerhouse.

In 2025, OBS sold over 2,100 horses for a combined $183.6 million across its various seasonal auctions, including major events in April and June.

The next major auction on the calendar is the OBS Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training, scheduled for April 14 to April 17.
