A total of 502 horses were sold for over $25.6 million during the Ocala Breeders’ Sales June event, including one horse that sold for a record $975,000.

The 2025 Ocala Breeders’ Sales June Two Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale took place last week on June 17 and June 18. According to OBS, approximately $25,688,500 was generated from the sale of 502 horses.

During the last hour of the sale, OBS recorded a record price for its June sales event when a chestnut filly was sold for $975,000 to consignor Randy Miles on behalf of owner Gus King.

The sale also set a record for the highest average sale for each horse at $51,172, besting the previous record of $43,433, which was set in 2021. The median ($25,000) also bested the prior record median ($23,500), which was established in 2022. Last year, nearly 100 more horses (592) were sold for almost $4 million less ($21,702,300).

“We certainly saw the same pattern that we saw in the 2-year-old market all year and I’m glad that it held all the way to June,” said Tod Wojciechowski, Director of Sales for OBS. “This time of year, you worry about buyer fatigue but a lot of that was just worry. The market proved its resiliency again. Lots of records this year, it was an excellent season. We’re grateful to the buyers that came, grateful to the consignors who bring the quality horses they bring.”

Before this year’s event, hundreds of horses were showcased during the under-tack portion of the event.

The leading consignor by gross during this year’s summer sale was Meric Sales, who sold 14 horses for $1,494,000.

The June sale comes just weeks after OBS generated over $88 million from it’s April sale of 637 horses. During that event, Governor Ron DeSantis visited OBS to lend his opposition to a since-denied thoroughbred decoupling bill.

Just weeks before the April event, OBS reported nearly $66 million in sales during its March event, including one horse that sold for a record-setting $3 million.

Ocala Breeders’ Sales will next host its October Yearling Sale in early October.
