A 59-year-old man was killed and another man was seriously injured after an accident on Interstate 75 in Ocala on Wednesday morning.

The fatal accident took place near mile marker 356 on I-75 in Marion County, just two miles north of U.S. Highway 27, at around 10:35 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the two men were traveling in a pickup truck, northbound on I-75, in the left lane, when they made an “improper lane change” into the center lane and struck a semi-truck that was also traveling northbound.

After making the turn, the right rear of the pickup truck collided with the left front of the semi-truck, causing the pickup truck to rotate and enter the path of another semi-truck in the far right lane.

The second semi-truck pushed the pickup truck onto the right shoulder, where both vehicles eventually came to rest.

The 59-year-old man in the pickup truck, who was from Monroe, Georgia, was not wearing his seatbelt during the crash and was ejected from the vehicle as a result. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The other occupant of the vehicle, a 38-year-old man also from Monroe, sustained serious injures in the accident and was transported to a local hospital.

The drivers of the semi-trucks did not sustain any injuries from the accident, according to the FHP report.

Authorities have not yet determined which of the occupants was driving the pickup truck at the time of the accident. No further details have been released regarding the accident.
