Marion County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating the death of a 29-year-old transgender individual who was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

On Tuesday, May 5, MCSO deputies responded to a report of a suspicious death in the 3200 block of SW 189th Avenue in Dunnellon.

At the time, MCSO reported that a witness had located a deceased adult male.

On Wednesday, detectives provided an update, saying they determined the incident was a homicide by firearm.

The victim was identified as 29-year-old Henry Singleton. On social media, Singleton self-identified as “Mommie Spotsie King.” In multiple social media posts, Singleton reiterated their status as “transitioning.”

Friends of Singleton were devastated by the news of the homicide.

“My heart is so heavy right now. Never imagined I’d get the news I got – we were just taling about getting you down here to start a better life,” said Jose C.

“This is so wrong. You were too young. The world needs more people like you…This place will never be the same,” reads part of a statement from Stacey L.
