A 61-year-old Marion County man was arrested after he allegedly grabbed a knife and threatened to kill his father during an argument over loud music.

On Sunday, June 7, Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a local residence in reference to a domestic disturbance. A male victim told deputies that he was attempting to sleep when his son, identified as Anthony Paris Haig, began playing loud music in the middle of the night, according to the arrest report.

When the victim entered his son’s bedroom to ask him to turn the volume down, a verbal argument ensued, and Haig allegedly threatened to kill the victim.

According to the victim’s statement, he feared for his life and immediately left the residence, heading to a local church where he contacted law enforcement.

During an interview, the victim’s wife claimed that Haig grabbed a black-handled knife from the kitchen during the verbal altercation. Haig then allegedly threatened to kill the victim.

A second witness advised that they heard a loud argument between Haig and the victim, with Haig allegedly threatening to kill the victim while in the kitchen, according to the report.

Deputies made contact with Haig and advised him of his Miranda rights. Haig allegedly admitted to making the death threats, adding that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time, according to the report.

When asked if he had a knife during the incident, Haig reportedly stated that he could not remember what he was holding. He allegedly further claimed that any verbal threats were made “in the heat of the moment.”

Haig was placed under arrest and booked into Marion County Jail, where he remains in custody without bond. He is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

Jail records show that Haig is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7.
