A lightning strike is being blamed for a structure fire Wednesday night in southwest Marion County.
Multiple units from Marion County Fire Rescue were dispatched to a residential structure fire shortly before 5 p.m. A 911 caller had reported that a neighbor’s house had been struck by lightning.
Units from Station 32, Station 21 and Station 24 responded to the blaze. Upon arrival, command was established, a 360-degree inspection of the home was completed and hose lines were deployed. Command advised that smoke and flames were showing and directed crews to accomplish primary and secondary searches of the structure.
Truck Company 21 performed ventilation operations on the roof. And due to the quick actions of the firefighters on scene, there was minimal damage to the home.
Once the fire was extinguished, crews also placed a salvage tarp over the roof to minimize water damage due to the inclement weather.
