Lake County firefighters rescue malnourished red-tail hawk

Firefighters from Lake County Fire Rescue came to the rescue of a red-tailed hawk this past Saturday.

Firefighter/Paramedic Kyle Rushton and Lt. Jeremy Searcy, of Engine 21 near Eustis, caught and rendered aid to the injured hawk. Then they contacted the Avian Reconditioning Center for Birds of Prey in Apopka, which accepted and assessed the young bird.

The hawk, which is 10-12 weeks old, was dehydrated and malnourished. It will be rehabilitated and eventually returned to the area where the firefighters found it.
