Violence erupts in fast-food restaurant parking lot after woman claims car almost hit her

Brittany Desire’e Hanks

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was called to an Ocala fast-food restaurant Wednesday afternoon after an altercation in the parking lot turned violent.

When deputies arrived at the McDonald’s restaurant, located at 7562 SE Maricamp Road, a woman told them she was walking through the parking lot earlier when a black Hyundai almost hit her. The woman said she yelled at the car’s driver to watch what she was doing and that’s when 26-year-old Brittany Desire’e Hanks rolled down the window and told her to “watch out and walk faster,” a sheriff’s office report states.

The woman told deputies that Hanks threw a cup of ice at her, with the cubes hitting her in the chest and abdominal area. Then Hanks exited the car and “began to strike her multiples times in the face,” the report says.

Hanks, who lives at S740 NW 66th Pl. in Ocala, told deputies that she was driving through the parking lot when the woman approached her and began to yell at her to watch what she was doing. Hanks said she tossed the ice on the woman in an attempt to get her to step away from her vehicle.

Hanks also told deputies that the woman scratched the left rear door of her car with keys, which is “when she excited the vehicle and struck her in the face,” the report says.

The report notes that the deputy saw a laceration on the left side of the woman’s face and her left eye appeared to be swollen.

Hanks was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with battery. She was released Wednesday night on $1,000 bond.
