Sumter County residents survive Pasco County crash that claims life of 15-year-old girl

Two Sumter County residents survived a crash in Pasco County Tuesday night that claimed the life of a 15-year-old Lakeland girl.

Laramy Tuff Strickland, 21, was driving a 2012 Ford F-250 pickup truck pulling a utility trailer on Trilby Road at the intersection of U.S. 301 when a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by 17-year-old Abigail Nicole Trammel failed to stop for flashing red signals, a Florida Highway Patrol report states.

As a result, Strickland’s pickup collided with the left side of Trammel’s SUV, which then hit a fence and two empty vehicles – a 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser and a 2004 Cadillac DeVille – that were parked at 21009 U.S. 301.

Keely Rai Oltmanns, 15, of Lakeland, was ejected from the Explorer. She was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, where she succumbed to her injuries, the FHP report says.

Trammel, of Lake Wales, suffered critical injuries and also was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, as was a second passenger in the SUV, 15-year-old Robert Stinson, of Lakeland, who suffered serious injuries.

No one in the Explorer was wearing a seat belt, the FHP report says.

Strickland and his passenger, 18-year-old Jarod Hunter Dobson, both were wearing seat belts. Strickland, of Bushnell, wasn’t injured and Dobbs, of Webster, was transported to Florida Hospital in Dade City with minor injuries.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the FHP report says.
