Man arrested in 2016 in The Villages lands back behind bars

Christopher Douglas Abshire

A man was arrested outside a Summerfield mini-mart early Thursday morning after deputies thought he had an outstanding warrant.

Christopher Douglas Abshire, 39, was in a blue Ford pickup truck in the parking lot of the Circle K store at 10143 SE Sunset Harbor Road when deputies confronted him. The pickup was running and at one point it started to roll backwards while deputies were trying to speak with Abshire, the report says, adding that he then stopped the truck and put it in park.

A criminal background check revealed that Abshire didn’t have an outstanding warrant, but it showed that his driver’s license had been revoked on Jan. 29 and suspended on April 5 for failure to satisfy a court financial obligation, the report says.

Abshire, of Summerfield, was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with knowingly driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was released on his own recognizance Friday at 8:27 p.m. and is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom on Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. to answer to the charge.

Abshire had been arrested in 2016 after stolen merchandise was found in his vehicle at Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages.
