Lake County Jail employee charged with giving contraband to inmate

Kathy Beasley

Lake County sheriff’s undercover detectives arrested a civilian employee of the Lake County Jail Wednesday night following an investigation regarding contraband being brought into the facility.

Kathy Beasley was arrested for bringing items such as marijuana, cigarettes, tobacco and a cell phone to an inmate whom she had apparently befriended. Beasley worked in the kitchen of the jail preparing meals for inmates, a sheriff’s office report states.

The investigation began approximately one month ago after sheriff’s officials received a tip from another inmate. Beasley admitted to bringing the items in, stating she had developed a friendship with the inmate and felt sorry for him, the report says.

Beasley was arrested and booked into the Lake County Jail on $2,000 bond. She has been employed at the sheriff’s office for 13 years and never had disciplinary action before.

Termination proceedings are currently under way, the report says.
