A Marion County sheriff’s deputy arrested an Ocala woman Monday night who was “throwing things around the house” after kicking her roommate.
When the deputy arrived at the home on SW 131st Court, 24-year-old Catherine Mary Budy promptly said, “Handcuff me and take me to jail. I did it,” a sheriff’s office report states, adding that the deputy did detain her based on her behavior.
The deputy then spoke to another woman who lives at the house. She said that Budy had “become aggravated” and was breaking things in the residence during an argument. The woman said she told Budy to calm down and that law enforcement was on the way.
But Budy responded with, “Well, I will make it worth it” and kicked the woman in the back of legs in an attempt to knock her down the stairs, the report says.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the deputy took Budy into custody and transported her to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with battery. She was being held on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom on Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. to answer to the charge.
Budy is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having been housed at the jail twice before her most current arrest. On Jan. 26, 2017, she was charged with battery. And on March 20, 2014, she was charged with domestic battery and criminal mischief, jail records show.
The state elected not to prosecute Budy in the January 2017 case after she successfully completed the Marion County Mental Health Court Program, court records show. And following the March 2014 incident, even though there was “ample probable cause” for Budy’s arrest, charges were dropped/abandoned because the likelihood of conviction at trial was slight.
The victim in that case signed a waiver of prosecution. And a witness said that while she didn’t see most of the incident take place, from what she did observe, it was a “case of mutual combat,” court records show.
