Ocala woman jailed after hitting and spitting rampage inside her ransacked home

Heidi Jo Tarnowski

Marion County deputies arrested an Ocala woman last week after she went on a rampage that included hitting, spitting and ransacking her residence.

When deputies arrived at the home on SE 64th Lane last Sunday night, they made contact with 47-year-old Heidi Jo Tarnowski, who was “visibly distraught and yelling.” She “appeared to be intoxicated and had a difficult time articulating any statements,” a sheriff’s office report states.

The man who called deputies for help said Tarnowski woke up intoxicated and had been “screaming, yelling, ripping down doors and damaging things” inside their home throughout the day. The man said he left the residence to go to the grocery store and received a text from a juvenile in the home who claimed that Tarnowski had spit on her and she wanted to leave, the report says.

The man said he returned home and watched Tarnowski begin to pull their bedroom door off the hinges and throw things. He said she slapped him in the face multiple times and grabbed his right ear and began to pull, the report says, adding that the man said a similar incident had occurred two days earlier when Tarnowski bit him in the tricep area of his right arm.

The man also said that during the rampage, Tarnowski had threatened to hang or shoot herself in an attempt to end her life, the report says.

Deputies noted that the man had a large purple bruise and what appeared to be teeth marks on the back of his right arm. They also saw small lacerations behind the man’s right ear that were “mildly bleeding” and a small laceration on his forehead, as well as redness and swelling on his right cheek, the report says.

Deputies also spoke with the juvenile, who confirmed that Tarnowski had been yelling, screaming and “displaying bizarre behavior” throughout the day. She said she went into her bedroom and locked her door in an effort to get away from Tarnowski but she kicked the door open and spit in her face, the juvenile said, adding that she also witnessed Tarnowski slapping the man’s face several times.

Tarnowski was taken into custody and read her rights. She denied making threats to harm herself and while sitting inside a patrol car, she “continuously cursed, screamed and yelled aimlessly,” the report says.

Tarnowski was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with three counts of domestic battery. She was held with no bond and is due in a Marion County courtroom on Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. to answer to the charges.

Tarnowski is no stranger to the Marion County legal system, having been arrested two other times this year and once in 2014. She was arrested Nov. 3 on a domestic battery charge and Oct. 7 on a charge of DUI impairment with property damage. Both of those cases are still active in the court system.

Tarnowski also was arrested on Oct. 21, 2014 and charged with domestic battery, though that charge was later dropped/abandoned and she was ordered to pay a $6 court fee, records show.
