Knife threat during hallucinogenic trip lands Ocala woman behind bars

Elizabeth Gavin

An Ocala woman was arrested after she allegedly threatened a family member with a knife during a hallucinogenic experience.

Ocala Police were called Sunday afternoon to a residence on SW 2nd Street about a woman who was under the influence of drugs and had been running through the bushes since around 3 a.m. The reporting party said the woman – later identified as 40-year-old Elizabeth Gavin – had no shoes and was hallucinating.

Officers located Gavin in a wooded area, where she was yelling and asking them why they didn’t arrest the man who was standing there. There was no one else in the area, but Gavin kept saying there was someone hiding in the bushes. When asked if she had been using Molly (MDMA), Gavin said she had used it earlier, according to the report.

A family member told officers that before Gavin started running through the bushes yelling crazy things, she was walking through the house with a large kitchen knife in her hand and kicking doors. The family member said Gavin kicked in her bedroom door and allegedly said she was going to kill her, according to report.

The family member said Gavin was holding the knife in her right hand with the blade pointing up in the air. She said she was able to take the knife away, and then Gavin looked at her, smiled and walked away. A kitchen knife was recovered and placed into evidence, according to the report.

Gavin was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. She was also placed under the Baker Act and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she remains on $500 bond. She is due to appear in Marion County Court on April 30.
