Repeat offender jailed on host of drug charges after traffic stop

Deron Dante Johnson

A 34-year-old Ocala man who’s been jailed more than a dozen times since 2005 was arrested on multiple drug and other charges after being caught speeding Monday.

Deron Dante Johnson, of 16206 SW 48th Circle, was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methylenedioxy-methamphetamine), distribution of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) without a prescription, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, driving with a suspended license (habitual offender), possession of drug equipment, and resisting an officer without violence.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy clocked Johnson traveling 42 mph in a 30-mph zone in the 300 block of Marion Oaks Drive. Shortly after the deputy turned around to initiate a traffic stop, Johnson pulled into a driveway, got out of the vehicle and walked towards a residence, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy ordered Johnson to return to the vehicle multiple times, but he ignored the orders and walked to the front door. Johnson knocked on the door, sat down in a chair on the front porch, and called someone on his cell phone. The front door opened and Johnson started to enter when the deputy took him by his right arm and guided him back away from the doorway. Johnson kept pulling his arms away from the deputy while telling the person on the phone he was being arrested. The deputy was finally able to get handcuffs on Johnson’s wrists and place him in the back of a patrol car, the report said.

Another deputy who arrived on the scene detected the odor of marijuana as he walked past Johnson’s vehicle. A search turned up two large plastic bags with a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana and weighed 208 grams, three smaller plastic bags with a white powder that tested positive for cocaine and weighed 27 grams, and a clear bag containing several small clear pieces of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 2 grams, according to the report.

Also found was a small leather bag that contained a weight scale with residue on it and a red container holding a large yellowish-colored block agent that tested positive for methylenedioxy-methamphetamine and weighed 2 grams, the report said.

Marion County Jail records show Johnson has 13 previous arrests on charges including fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, marijuana possession, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine, dealing in stolen property, and numerous offenses of driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Johnson was taken to the jail, where he was released Tuesday on $38,000 bond. A court date has not been scheduled.
