Ocala man driving on suspended license jailed after Summerfield crash

Steven Francis Schoener

An Ocala man was charged with knowingly driving with a suspended license after a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 441 and County Road 42 in Summerfield.

Steven Francis Schoener, 52, of 28 Oak Loop, was driving a silver Ford passenger van that was pulling an enclosed trailer when it collided with a Toyota Tacoma at approximately 1:35 a.m. Sunday. The Toyota was totaled in the wreck and the van was also heavily damaged, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report.

An independent witness said the van failed to stop for a red light. A computer check showed the van was registered to Schoener and had no insurance, and a check of the FHP database showed Schoener was stopped on June 22 and issued a traffic citation for driving while license suspended without knowledge, the report said.

Schoener told an FHP trooper he was the driver and the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash, and that he tried to stop to avoid a collision. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released later Sunday on $500 bond.
