Habitual traffic offender from Williston jailed after zipping through stop sign

Roger Lavelle Howard

A Williston man found himself behind bars early Thursday morning after running a stop sign in front of Marion County sheriff’s deputy.

The incident took place when 44-year-old Roger Lavelle Howard was traveling west on Hwy. 326 in a silver vehicle. The deputy said Howard failed to stop at the intersection of Hwy. 326 and NW Hwy. 225A, so he initiated a traffic stop, a sheriff’s office report states.

Howard told the deputy he didn’t have a driver’s license and he believed there was an active warrant out for his arrest. A computer checked showed that his license had been revoked on March 4 and on Feb. 23, 2015 and he was listed as a habitual offender, the report says.

Howard was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with driving while license suspended (habitual offender). He was being held on $2,000 bond and is due in court on Sept. 24 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge.
