Intoxicated Fort McCoy teen pepper sprayed by victim during nasty spat

Jeffrey Raymond Earl Nave

An 18-year-old Fort McCoy man who reportedly came home drunk from fishing was arrested on a domestic battery charge after a woman had to use pepper spray on him during a nasty domestic spat.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Jeffrey Raymond Earl Nave pushed her and damaged her front glass door during the incident, which happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday. She said Nave came home highly intoxicated and was trying to leave again, and she was trying to stop him from driving, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said she opened the passenger-side door and was reaching for the keys. She said she was halfway inside the vehicle and halfway out when Nave quickly gassed the vehicle, knocking her to the ground. The victim said Nave went over to the passenger side to see her and she told him not to touch her before running inside, the report said.

The victim said while she was going up the steps to the residence, Nave pushed her and said, “I hope you die, dumb bitch.” She said she went inside and locked the door. The victim said Nave kicked the front door with his steel-toe boot, causing it to “spider web.” She said she told Nave to leave and he kicked the door again, this time shattering it, according to the report.

The victim said Nave reached in, opened the door and started coming towards her. She said she had pepper spray in her hand and told him to back up or she would spray him. The victim said she counted to three and sprayed him. She then ran outside to her vehicle to leave, but Nave took her key to start it. She still had the key fob to lock and unlock the doors, so she was able to get into the car and call law enforcement, the report said.

The victim told the deputy that Nave “would have seriously hurt me or killed me tonight if I didn’t pepper spray him.” Nave admitted to being intoxicated and breaking the front door, but he declined to answer any more questions about the incident, according to the report.

Nave was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Friday on $500 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on March 20.
