A Weirsdale man who allegedly ordered two dogs to attack a Marion County sheriff’s deputy after a nasty fight with his gal pal found himself behind bars early Thursday morning.
The victim at the residence, located on S Hwy. 25, told a deputy that she and 62-year-old Donald Wesley Boorum had been in a verbal altercation. She also claimed that he was “drunk and disorderly.”
The victim told the deputy that Boorum was inside the residence with two aggressive dogs. The deputy then knocked on the door and when Boorum answered, he looked at him and said, “Get ’em.” The two medium-sized dogs came toward the deputy in an aggressive manner and he dove over the edge of an empty above-ground pool to avoid being attacked, a sheriff’s office report states.
Boorum then shut the door and attempted to exit the residence from the back door. Once the dogs were secured, the deputy was able to catch Boorum and place him under arrest. He said, “You had no right to be on my property. That’s why I released my dogs,” the report says.
Boorum was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. He was being held on $10,000 bond and is due in court April 7 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge, jail records show.
Boorum is no stranger to the Marion County legal system. He was jailed this past November after a woman claimed he pushed her to the ground and ordered his dogs to attack her. He was arrested in June for allegedly punching a woman in the buttocks while they were drinking. And in August 2018 he was jailed after coming home from a bar and smashing a toilet in his front yard.
