Ocala man claims self-defense after domestic battery arrest

Christian Junior Gonzalez

An Ocala man accused of domestic battery said he was defending himself when he held a woman down on the floor during an argument.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded Wednesday to a residence on SE 28th Lane, where they observed the victim with a cut to her left eyebrow and blood running down her face. She said she and Christian Junior Gonzalez, 45, had been involved in an argument over her wanting him to leave the residence, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Gonzalez became angry, grabbed her by the hair and threw her onto the floor. She said she suffered the cut to her eyebrow and her glasses were broken, the report said.

While standing next to a deputy, Gonzalez spontaneously said, “I was just defending myself. I got too loose. You can just put the handcuffs on already.” He then said he was defending himself from the victim striking him, and the only way he could do it was by holding her down. The deputy did not observe any injuries on Gonzalez, according to the report.

Gonzalez was charged with domestic battery and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Thursday on his own recognizance. He will appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 6.
