A 73-year-old Ocala woman is accused of stabbing a man in the arm after waking him up and accusing him of stealing everything from her purse.
Charlotte Elaine Jefferson-Williams was still arguing with the victim when a Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to their residence shortly after 5 a.m. Oct. 1. The victim told the deputy he was sleeping when Jefferson-Williams got out of bed and accused him of stealing all of the items out of her purse, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The victim said Jefferson-Williams went into the kitchen and armed herself with a knife, then returned to the bedroom and said several times, “I’m going to kill you.” The victim said he saw the knife, got out of bed and grabbed a case to swing at Jefferson-Williams to make her drop the knife, the report said.
The victim said Jefferson-Williams started swinging the knife and stabbed him in the arm. He said he then wrestled her to the floor to get the knife way from her. The victim said once he wrestled Jefferson-Williams to the floor, he was able to get away from her, according to the report.
The deputy observed the victim had a puncture wound on his left upper arm/shoulder that was about 2 inches long. He had blood on his shirt and running down his left arm. The victim provided a steak knife from the dresser in the bedroom. He said he put it there after getting it away from Jefferson-Williams, the report said.
Jefferson-Williams told the deputy she confronted the victim about stealing her belongings. She said he told her she was sick and needed to see the doctor. Jefferson-Williams said the victim then blocked the door, preventing her from leaving the bedroom, so she was forced to defend herself, according to the report.
Asked how she got the knife with the victim blocking the door, Jefferson-Williams said she yelled at the victim until he moved, and then went into the kitchen and got the knife. She said the victim dragged her back to the bedroom and sat on top of her. Jefferson-Williams said she was able to push the victim off her and call law enforcement, the report said.
Asked when the victim got stabbed, Jefferson-Williams said when the victim grabbed her. She said she was only protecting herself because she was afraid of him. There were three scratches on Jefferson-Williams’ right arm. She had blood on her shirt, but the deputy did not observe any injuries on her that were bleeding, according to the report.
Another resident of the house told the deputy he was asleep during the altercation. He said Jefferson-Williams called him several times to wake him up. The witness said he went to Jefferson-Williams’ and the victim’s bedroom and he saw the victim bleeding and Jefferson-Williams on the phone, the report said.
Jefferson-Williams was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and taken to the Marion County Jail. She was released Oct. 3 on $10,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on Nov. 3.
