Marion County Supervisor of Elections announces scholarship opportunity

Marion County Supervisor of Elections Wesley Wilcox is urging area students to apply for three $1,200 scholarships that will be awarded by the Florida Supervisors of Elections.

To be eligible for the FSE Scholarship the applicant shall: Be a registered voter and a Florida resident for the preceding two years; Be enrolled or accepted as a full-time student in a senior college or university in Florida; Have finished two years of junior college or undergraduate work and have maintained a “C” average or above for the previous year; Be either a Political Science, Public/Business Administration, or Journalism/Mass Communication major.

The FSE Scholarship packet can be obtained online at www.VoteMarion.Gov/Scholarship or in person at the Marion County Election Center, 981 NE 16th Street, Ocala. Applications are due by March 26. Applicants will be interviewed by the Supervisor of Elections. One student will be selected and submitted to the FSE Scholarship Committee for consideration against state finalists. The winners will be announced and recognized at the 2021 FSE Summer Conference.

The three scholarships are presented in memory of former Supervisors of Elections Dorothy Ruggles of Pinellas County, Joe Oldmixon of Escambia County and Jimmy Whitehouse of Highlands County.

FSE is a professional membership organization representing the Supervisors of Elections of Florida’s 67 counties. The organization’s goal is to support fair, honest and accurate elections in the Florida. Wilcox serves as president-elect of the association.
