An Ocala woman spent Valentine’s Day night behind bars after she reportedly accused her man of cheating on her, damaged his truck with a baseball bat and then tried to hit him with it.
The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that he and 39-year-old Thelrhonda L. Gordon got into an argument Sunday afternoon over her accusing him of cheating on her. He said he went inside the home and started packing his personal belongings to leave, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The victim said while he was inside, he heard noise from outside and went to see what was going on. He said he saw Gordon strike his truck with a baseball bat. The victim said he went to confront her and she tried to swing the bat at him. He said he was in fear she was going to cause him harm, the report said.
The victim said he was able to grab the bat from Gordon and place it in the truck and shut the door. He said Gordon ran into the house and locked him out, keeping him from gathering his things and leaving. The victim said at no time did he touch the Gordon, and he only grabbed the bat to keep from being struck himself, according to the report.
After being read her Miranda warning, Gordon gave a similar account of the incident up until the point of what happened outside near the truck. She initially denied hitting the truck with the bat but later said she did. Gordon also claimed the victim pushed her to the ground and took the bat away from her, the report said.
There had been rain prior to the disturbance and the area where both parties agreed the incident around the truck happened was wet and muddy. Asked why her clothes were dry and clean when she had been thrown to the ground, Gordon said she changed before law enforcement arrived. She was asked to retrieve the clothing she was wearing during the altercation and she provided a light-colored nightgown that also didn’t have any mud on it, according to the report.
Gordon was charged with aggravated domestic assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. She was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released Monday on $2,000 bond. Gordon will appear in Marion County Court on March 16.
