Marion Sheriff’s Office wedding party springs into action when man hit by car

Law enforcement officers know they’re never really off duty, which proved to be true during a recent wedding in Ocala.

Mcso Wedding Party Helps Injured Man

Several members of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and an Ocala Police officer were taking part in the wedding of Dep. Chris Rafferty and his bride-to-be, Detention Dep. Taylor Rafferty. They all expected a typical wedding day but that was far from the case, a Facebook post on the Marion County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page points out.

While taking photo of the bride, groom and the wedding party, a man was struck by a car on the square in Downtown Ocala. The entire wedding party – fully dressed in wedding attire – quickly responded and rendered aid to the injured man. The group consisted of Dep. Dustin French, Dep. Samantha Horne, Dep. Ryan Murphy, Detention Dep. Danielle Donely and Ocala Police Officer Kyle Kern.

Horne stabilized the victim’s head to prevent further injuries, while the bride directed traffic – in her wedding dress – and others in the wedding party ensured everyone else was OK.

“Fortunately, the man was not severely injured and after he was transported by medics, the events of the wedding proceeded!” the Facebook post says.
