“Million Dollar Quartet” will be live on-stage May 27 through June 27 at Ocala Civic Theatre.
This smash-hit musical is inspired by the true story of the iconic recording session that brought together Elvis Presley (Jonathan Williams), Johnny Cash (James R. Taylor III), Jerry Lee Lewis (Philip King) and Carl Perkins (Scott Nadenik).
On the afternoon of Dec. 4, 1956, these four young musicians gathered at Sun Records in Memphis for an impromptu jam session – the first and only time they would record together. Legendary music producer Sam Phillips (Trafton Crandall) oversaw the historic meeting, and Elvis brought along his girlfriend Dyanne (Julia Pagh).
“Million Dollar Quartet” brings to life that unforgettable day in rock ’n roll history with a score of hits including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “That’s All Right,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Walk the Line,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Hound Dog” and more.
“Million Dollar Quartet” is directed by Katrina Ploof. Scenic designer is William Spratt. Costume designer is Rebekah Leppert. Lighting designer is Jeff Davis. Sound designer is Jim Foster. Props designer is Laura Bradford. Stage manager is Tom Ferreira.
