A Weirsdale man found himself behind bars recently after photos from a video surveillance camera showed him choking a woman during a scuffle over getting a ride home.

Marion County sheriff’s deputies spoke with 30-year-old David Lee Wissinger, who said he and the victim had been drinking for several hours at the County Line Smokehouse & Spirits on County Road 25 when the woman refused to take him home. He said she wanted to smoke a cigarette so they exited the bar onto the back porch and he put his hands on her shoulders and asked her to please take him home, a sheriff’s office report states.

Wissinger said the woman continued to refuse and then went back inside the bar. He said he asked her one more time and when she refused again, he exited the bar and started walking down the street toward his residence.

After the victim provided a sworn statement along with the surveillance photos, Wissinger was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic violence by strangulation. His bond also was revoked on past charges of shooting into a dwelling and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was being held on $2,000 bond on the new charge and no bond on the previous charges and is due in court May 25 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
