Grease fire extinguished at Brick City Southern Kitchen & Whiskey Bar

A sprinkler system helped Brick City Southern Kitchen & Whiskey Bar avoid catastrophe this week when a grease fire ignited.

On Wednesday at around 7:20 a.m., reports of a structure fire brought Ocala Fire Rescue’s Engines 1, 3, and 5, Tower 1, and Battalion Chief 22 to the restaurant located at 10 S Magnolia Avenue in Ocala.

When the crews arrived, they were informed that the fire was in the back of the restaurant inside the smoker room.

Firefighters went to the rear of the building and spotted flames coming from the smoker. An active sprinkler was keeping the flamers from spreading.

Crews used a water can to extinguish the fire.

Captain Anthony Ortiz said, “The fire started as a result of grease buildup in the cooking equipment. The sprinkler system controlled the fire to the area of origin until fire crews arrived to smother residual flames and eliminate potential fire extension.”

The Ocala Police Department also responded.

No injuries were reported.

The fire only caused a slight delay for the restaurant. Shortly after the flames were extinguished, the restaurant posted on Facebook that they would be opening at 4 p.m. instead of at 11 a.m.

“Thanks for your patience and understanding! We’ll miss you for lunch, but we’ll see you for dinner,” the restaurant said in the post.
