Pay attention to Ocala and Marion County government if you want to be heard

To the Editor:

To all the letter writers complaining about traffic, infrastructure, and development: You may feel better after submitting your thoughts, but it’s unlikely your complaint will be read by anyone who actually votes on a development agreement. It’s also unlikely that someone selling their acreage will refuse to sell to a developer. If you were selling your house or property would you care more about receiving the highest price – or would you make your decision on whom to sell to based on their stated intentions on what they planned for the property, if they would even tell you? Come on, be real.

If you want to actually have a voice, you need to pay attention to what goes on at City and County commission meetings, and show up and speak out when commissioners are voting on land use planning, zoning changes, variances, and development agreements. Also pay attention and vote during local elections. Ask candidates their views on growth and vote accordingly. Those are the only things that will make a difference.
