Artwork from winning students, emerging artists now on display at Ocala City Hall

The winners of this year’s Student and Emerging Artist Exhibition competition now have their artwork on display at Ocala City Hall.

On Tuesday, the Ocala Cultural Arts Division held an opening reception at Ocala City Hall (110 SE Watula Avenue) for the new exhibit, which is entitled “Community.”

City officials announced the winners of this year’s competition during the reception. The juror for this year’s competition was Emily Schafer, the Dean of the Florida School of the Arts at St. Johns River State College.

Best In Show at this year’s competition was “Bad Balance” by Lillian Hart.

The rest of the winners for this year’s competition were as follows:

Four to Six Years Active Art Experience:
First Place: “Face to Face” by Westly Kessler
Second Place: “Esquina de Abuela” by Carla Gonzalez
Third Place: “Patience” by Patricia Teal

One to Three Years Active Art Experience:
First Place: “Comunitron 3000” by Jess Arcila
Second Place: “Emerging Manatee” by Nick Conzone
Third Place: “Lavender Dreams” by Karen Hoffman

High School:
First Place: “Grandma” by Miharn Oka
Second Place: “When You Need a Hand” by Levi Come
Third Place: “The Weekly Walk” by Juliana Henningsen

Prizes for this year’s competition included scholarships to a local college, gift certificates to local art-based businesses, and memberships to local art societies and museums.

The exhibit will come to a close on Monday, October 14, according to city officials.
