Belleview man with suspended license arrested after fleeing from MCSO deputy

A 25-year-old Belleview man was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office after he fled from a deputy who was attempting to conduct a traffic stop.

On Sunday, the MCSO deputy observed a Dodge Ram 1500 that had “improper placement of a tag and no tag lights,” and a traffic stop was attempted near the 8400 block of SW 150th Street, according to the MCSO report.

Once the deputy activated the patrol car’s emergency lights, the pickup truck immediately turned westbound onto 151st Place. The vehicle traveled down the dirt road on 151st Place at a high rate of speed, and the deputy lost sight of the vehicle for a short period of time.

The deputy spotted the vehicle as it was heading southbound on 100th Road. When the driver of the vehicle saw the deputy, the vehicle turned and began heading westbound on 153rd Lane.

The MCSO report indicated that the deputy briefly caught up with the vehicle but eventually lost sight of it for a second time. The deputy was advised by MCSO to cancel the pursuit.

As the deputy approached the intersection of 153rd Lane and 110th Avenue, the vehicle was observed on the side of the road. The hood of the vehicle was raised and a man, identified as William Allen Brown, was standing in front of the vehicle.

Brown was detained in handcuffs. The deputy discovered through a computer search that Brown’s driver’s license was suspended on August 31, 2022.

When asked why he fled from the deputy, Brown stated that he did it because he was “afraid of the police.”

Brown was arrested, transported to Marion County Jail, and he was later released on $2,500 bond. He is facing a felony charge for fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, along with a misdemeanor charge for driving with a suspended license.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
