Police searching for suspect who allegedly shot man in NE Ocala

The Ocala Police Department is asking for help from the public to locate a male suspect who allegedly shot a man in northeast Ocala early Friday morning.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m., OPD responded to the 1300 block of NE 15th Street in reference to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to his face, according to the police department.

The victim was transported to a local hospital as a trauma alert, and he is currently listed in critical but stable condition. His name was not released by Ocala police.

In a social media post on Friday afternoon, OPD stated that detectives have learned that 36-year-old Dustin W. Smith was the suspect who allegedly shot the victim.

Smith is currently at large, according to Ocala police.
