A cupcake bakery that reopened at a familiar location in Ocala several months ago is hosting a grand opening celebration this weekend.
On Saturday, January 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., SmallCakes Cupcakery and Creamery will host an event to celebrate the opening of its location at 4701 SW College Road, Unit 106, in the Shoppes of Ocala plaza.
The event will include free face painting, along with $1 frosting shots, $2 ice cream scoops, and a “Buy 3 Get 1 Free” offer on call cupcakes.
As its name suggests, the bakery’s menu features a wide variety of cupcakes and other sweet treats. Cupcake flavors include birthday cake, red velvet, and chocoholic, which is a chocolate cupcake topped with chocolate buttercream and chocolate sprinkles.
Cupcakes can be purchased individually for $4.50 or by the dozen for $47, according to the company’s website. In addition, the bakery sells individual brownies ($3), cookie sandwiches ($3.25), and dog-friendly pupcakes ($2.75).
SmallCakes of Ocala is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. The bakery has extended hours (10 a.m. to 9 p.m.) on Friday and Saturday, and reduced hours (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) on Sunday.
The cupcake bakery is one of multiple businesses that have opened or announced new locations in the southwest corridor of Ocala in recent years.
That includes Ocala’s third Chick-fil-A, which opened in December at the intersection of SW College Road and SW 48th Avenue. In the past two years, CarMax, Chicken Salad Chick, Culver’s, RaceWash, and two Wawa locations have all opened new locations nearby.
SmallCakes also joins a growing list of restaurants that specialize in classic desserts. That list includes J Marie Brands, which opened a new cheesecake shop in September, and Sweet N’ Savory Eats, which celebrated its grand opening in August.
