Marion County firefighters rescue horse trapped in pond

Marion County firefighters came to the rescue of a horse after the animal became trapped in a pond on Tuesday morning.

Shortly after 7:50 a.m., Marion County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to Weirsdale in reference to a horse being stuck in a pond near the 17300 block of SE 160th Avenue Road. A 911 caller had reported that the horse was unable to move in the pond, and the animal was “cold and weak,” according to MCFR.

Firefighters from MCFR’s Weirsdale Station #27 arrived on scene at 8:04 p.m. and observed a horse that was in around 4.5 feet of water. Additional MCFR crews soon arrived on scene, and firefighters were able to secure a boat to reach the horse.

“Utilizing their ingenuity and a bit of fire hose, crews were able free the horse,” stated MCFR on social media.

Firefighters were able to quickly bring the horse back onto land.

According to MCFR, several concerned citizens helped care for the horse until the owner could be located.
