My child is late weekly, left standing on busy highway by Marion school bus

Dear Editor,

Ft. McCoy is not the only spot in Marion County where the school bus system is an issue. We live in Ocala and more often then not our kids bus is late. They sit on the side of 441 waiting for the bus for long periods of time and the driver demands they be standing at the roadside well before she pulls up. It’s most definitely just as dangerous as the described area in your article, but there are many problems that need to be fixed, it’s not like this is some easy problem that the school board is ignoring. People don’t want to be bus drivers! The kids are unruly and disrespectful, causing it to be even more unsafe. I see a lot of parents saying “my child would never,” but would be shocked to see some of the things on camera that go on. These drivers are doing the best they can. I don’t see some of these stay at home parents offering to step up to be drivers. They offer paid training but they don’t want to do it. I don’t really know where this letter is going but it’s just a shame to continue to keep seeing it, as if it’s not a known issue all over the country not just in Marion County. I am upset my child is late to school weekly and that they are left standing at a VERY BUSY spot of a highway IN THE DARK but I also understand that there is only so much that can be done, and I don’t understand why some people can’t see the bigger picture!
