Dispose unused, unwanted medications during Drug Take Back Day this weekend

Marion County residents will have an opportunity to dispose of their unused or unwanted prescription medications during Drug Take Back Day this weekend.

The collection event will take place on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ocala Police Department Headquarters (402 S Pine Avenue).

The program offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded prescription medications.

OPD, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, encourages the public to remove unneeded medications from homes to help prevent medication misuse and opioid addiction before it starts.

In recent years, city officials have regularly read overdose statistics into public record. OPD Chief Mike Balken and Ocala Fire Rescue Chief Clint Welborn have regularly reported the city’s overdose statistics during the Ocala City Council’s regular meeting.

For more information on the initiative, visit the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day website.
