Marion County Public Schools kicked off its Summer Feeding Program this week and anticipates serving over 150,000 free meals to students 18 years and younger throughout the 43 schools that serve the community.
On Monday, schools across the county began serving meals to all students. The program is open to all those 18 years old and younger, with “no questions asked.”
“Students can simply show up at their closest serving location and enjoy the food provided by the district’s Summer Food Service Program,” reads a statement from MCPS.
Funded through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, this year, the district estimates it will serve 150,000 meals at 43 schools and 14 off-site/satellite locations throughout Ocala and Marion County.
According to the district, the meals served must be consumed onsite and are not prepared for takeout.
