A Texas-based vineyard known for creating high quality wines is working on a new location in downtown Ocala.

Barons Creek Vineyards is currently building out its first location at 16 SW Broadway Street in downtown Ocala.

The new business replaces Corkscrew Winery, which occupied the space for multiple years before an event venue briefly took over.

According to a press release from BCV President Marc G. Chase, the new business is targeting a May/June opening later this year.

Founded in Fredricksburg, Texas as a boutique winery that offered overnight villa stays, the organization currently operates several locations across the state of Texas.

Barons Creek Vineyards operates 144 Acres in the Texas High Plains, where the company says it grows Merlot, Temp, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Viognier. Additionally, the business grows Grenache and Carignan at its Wine Makers Vineyard in Catalunya.

In total, the business produces over two dozen varietals every year.

“We are so excited about our story and success and feel Ocala is a charming town that fits our brand,” says Chase.

Chase says instead of sommeliers and chefs, the company hires friendly staff “who love people and wine.”

“Our focus is ‘never stop trying to become qualified for the job.’ Texas Hospitality in a Glass, it’s that symple,” says Chase.

Employees at BCV explain each wine from “grape to glass.”

“That’s what’s so amazing about our ‘BCV Experience,’ is you learn your pallet through our tastings at your own pace in a fun and friendly environment,” says Chase.

In addition to its slate of wines, Chase says the business will also serve flat bread pizzas, charcuterie boards, hummus plates, chocolates, and other dishes that pair with their wines.

Barons Creek Vineyards joins multiple businesses that have reshaped downtown Ocala in the past six years, dating back to the openings of Bank Street, Black Sheep at Broadway, and Big Hammock Brewery, which all opened in 2019.

Since then, downtown has seen the addition of MOOYAH Burgers, Mellow Mushroom, 18 South, District Bar and Kitchen, Brown Dog Coffeehouse, Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop, Cantina Tex Mex & Tequila, Slice, the Hilton Garden Inn.

Additionally, Katya Vineyards, Symmetry Coffee Company, and The Gathering Cafe all moved into new locations in downtown Ocala over the past couple of years.
