Jimmy Buffett blames Gov. Rick Scott for red tide in new lyrics for ‘Margaritaville’

Renowned musician and Florida environmental advocate Jimmy Buffett hit the campaign trail Saturday in West Palm Beach for Democratic leaders, including U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson.

In a short acoustic set, Buffett sang to a crowd of more than 1,000 supporters at the Meyer Amphitheater in downtown West Palm Beach.

Buffett, who started the Adopt-A-Manatee program in 1984 to increase awareness of the manatee’s plight and help conservation efforts, leveled Nelson’s GOP opponent for his environmental record.

“Some people say that there’s a ride tide to blame, but I know, it’s Rick Scott’s fault,” Buffett sang in a revised version of his classic Margaritaville. “This is for better days ahead.”

Nelson addressed the crowd and urged them to make their voices heard ahead of the Nov. 6 election.

“You are here today because you know what is at stake,” Nelson told the crowd. “Bless you for your enthusiasm, your commitment and for your vote.”
