Video shows extreme fire danger when using gas-fueled fryers to cook turkeys

As Thanksgiving approaches, area residents are being reminded of the dangers of immersing turkeys into hot oil in outdoor gas-fueled fryers.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), frying turkeys that way poses a considerable safety threat against even the most careful and informed residents.

As seen in the video above, a large amount of cooking oil is used in these fryers, which is likely to be released and can be ignited by the burners. Instead, the NFPA encourages area residents to purchase fried turkey from a grocery store or restaurant or to use an oil-less turkey fryer.
