SunTran implementing redesigned bus routes beginning next week

SunTran will implement new routes next week.

On Monday, October 18, the Ocala-based bus service will implement its new, redesigned bus routes that were approved by Ocala City Council in August.

Based on public input, demographic needs, and travel requests, SunTran has redesigned the seven bus routes to create a more streamlined process that aims to reduce ride time by nearly fifty percent, according to the city.

Upgrades to the routes include expanded services, bus stops located on both sides of the road, easy onboarding for passengers with accessibility limitations, and new digital veils on the outside of the bus that automatically change with route information.

SunTran is planning future improvements with more bus shelters and benches at bus stops.

Along with the route changes, the company will implement an updated bus tracker. Visit the SunTran website for up-to-date information and to follow the bus routes in real-time.

A QR code has been established on bus maps and inside the vehicle that will link passengers directly to the live bus tracker.

The Downtown Transfer Station is still the central hub for the seven routes that operate Monday through Saturday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Bus fares will remain unchanged, according to the release.
