A 33-year-old Ocala man has been sentenced to over 5 years in federal prison for possessing a loaded firearm as a convicted felon.
Ronrico Lionel Farmer was sentenced on Thursday, September 15 by Senior United States District Judge John Antoon II to spend 5 years and 4 months in federal prison.
According to court documents, on or about April 17, 2021, an Ocala Police Department officer observed a traffic infraction and conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle which was being driven by Farmer. He gave the officer a false name to conceal his suspended driver’s license.
When the vehicle was searched, a substance (fentanyl) was discovered on the driver’s side floorboard, which Farmer referred to as “his children’s candy.” Also on the floorboard, the officer discovered a loaded 9mm handgun with an extended magazine.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted a DNA analysis of the recovered firearm and determined “with a likelihood ratio of 190 sextillion” that Farmer’s DNA was on the weapon. As a multi-convicted felon, Farmer is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition under federal law.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Ocala Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert E. Bodnar, Jr.
