Man charged with burglary after allegedly threatening homeowner, removing screen door

A 41-year-old homeless man was arrested by the Ocala Police Department after he was accused of threatening the occupant of a local residence, urinating on a bedroom window, and removing a screen door from the victim’s home.

On Sunday, November 6, at approximately 2:40 a.m., OPD officers responded to a residence located in the 900 block of SW 19th Avenue Road in Ocala in reference to a man who was attempting to force his way inside. According to the victim, the man was attempting to enter the home through the back door.

Upon arrival at the incident location, the officers observed a man, later identified as Jovan D. Hill, lying underneath a screen door that had been removed from the victim’s sliding glass door. Hill was detained by the officers.

The victim advised that Hill had attempted to remove the screen from a bedroom window, and he then allegedly proceeded to urinate on the window. While this was happening, Hill told the victim, “I have court tomorrow, I’m going to kick your [expletive],” according to the victim’s statement.

The victim was fearful that Hill was going to become violent. A short time after the incident at the bedroom window, the victim advised that Hill unlatched the rear porch gate, entered the victim’s enclosed porch, and then removed the screen door that was attached to the sliding glass door leading into the home.

Shortly after the screen door was removed, OPD officers arrived on scene.

According to the OPD report, a partially removed screen was observed in front of the bedroom window, and a yellow liquid that appeared to be urine was visible on the windowsill. Inside the enclosed porch, the screen door that had been removed from the sliding glass door was laying on the ground.

The report stated that Hill’s shoes were observed on the ground near the sliding glass door. A backpack belonging to Hill was also located on the front porch of the victim’s home, next to the front door.

Hill was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $15,500 bond. He is facing a felony charge for burglary of an occupied dwelling and a misdemeanor charge for simple assault with an intentional threat to do violence.

A court date has been scheduled on Tuesday, December 6 at 9 a.m., according to jail records.
