Lifeguard training for young teens at Jervey Gantt Aquatic Fun Center

The City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department is looking for local teenagers between the ages of 13 and 15 who are interested in becoming a lifeguard.

A one-week training program, Junior Lifeguard, will be held on Monday, June 26 through Friday, June 30, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Jervey Gantt Aquatic Fun Center located at 2390 SE 36th Avenue. This program will provide hands-on experience for teens seeking future summer employment as a lifeguard.

Participants will receive training in water skills, escape techniques, CPR, AED, and first aid. To be eligible for the program, candidates must pass these three prerequisites: swim front crawl for 25 yards, submerge to a depth of six feet, and tread water for one minute.

Registration for the Junior Lifeguard program is available online, and there is a cost of $75 per person.
