Two men are in custody after a shooting at an Ocala apartment complex.
Ocala police responded Tuesday to a shooting at the Parkside Garden Apartments where 30-year-old Lloyd A. Berry of Ocala allegedly wounded 25-year-old Arnoldo Benitez of Ocala during a drug deal gone bad. The two engaged in hand-to-hand combat after Benitez brandished a firearm, according to the Ocala Police Department. Benitez suffered gunshot wounds to the neck and was transported to Munroe Regional Hospital, where his jeans were taken by an Ocala evidence officer. A sandwich bag containing cocaine was found in the jeans, the arrest report indicated.
Benitez told officers that he went to the apartment to buy marijuana.
Berry was charged with robbery with a firearm and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Benitez was charged with possession of cocaine.
