WATCH: Goat leads Marion deputies on foot chase

A goat recently led two Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a memorable foot chase after escaping from its enclosure.

On April 26, 2024, at around 11:40 a.m., MCSO received a call about a young goat that had escaped. Two deputies were dispatched to assist with capturing the animal, according to the sheriff’s office.

The deputies located the goat shortly after arriving on scene, but the animal “made a valiant effort to avoid them.”

A comedic five-minute “hoof pursuit” ensued, and it came to an end when one of the deputies apprehended the “hoove-nile delinquent.”

The sheriff’s office stated that while the deputies were on the scene, nearby citizens informed them that a larger female goat had become trapped in chain-link fencing.

After the deputies returned the young goat to its enclosure, they spotted the trapped animal, which had recently given birth. According to MCSO, one of the deputies quickly untangled the chain-link fence and freed the mama goat so she could care for her newborns.

In a social media post on Wednesday morning, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office thanked both deputies for doing a great job helping the goats.

“Oh, and thank you for the entertainment,” added the sheriff’s office.
