Marion County Utilities has issued a precautionary boil water notice for all 3,400 customers in the Oak Run community due to a 12-inch water main break that occurred overnight. The water main appears to have been damaged by a lightning strike.
County crews have isolated the damaged water main and have been working on repairs through the night. Crews anticipate completing repairs today.
Residents are being notified via door hanger and interactive community notification calls. Utilities advises that all water used for brushing teeth, cooking, drinking, making ice or washing dishes be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use. As an alternative, residents may opt to use bottled water.
This precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey is performed and shows that the water is safe to drink. Utilities will test the water and notify customers by door hanger and interactive community notification calls when the precautionary boil water notice is lifted.
